SPW Uganda

Hello Everybody!
As you may have heard, I have been accepted into the 2006 program for Community Resource Development in Uganda. Students Partnership Worldwide is a charitable organization that sends volunteers to various countries to promote health education and resource development. This is unlike several other popular volunteer organizations, such as CUSO, in that it involves the deirect involvement of local people and local knowledge.
I will be heading to Uganda for 7 months come January 2006. For the first month, I will undergo training on sustainable agricultural practices, diversity of crops, implementation of clean water systems, afforestatin, and health education (with particular emphasis placed on the spread of HIV and AIDS). Upon completion of the training, I will then sit down with key members of the community and determine suitable projects that the community deems as important. We will then together develop a working modal of how I may implement these projects in my remaining 6 months.
I am really excited to have been given this opportunity to coordinate community action in Uganda. However, I will have to fundraise 7000 CDN dollars in order to participate in this venture. This can be roughly divided into the enabling costs – airfare, visa, insurance, placement money, training, subsistence expenses, the SPW overseas support and most importantly the cost of implementing such projects into the community. Supplies and all necessary items needed during my term will be bought locally as to ensure a local economic benefit.
I would greatly appreciate any monies that you may be able to offer as a donation at this time. Please contact me directly if you would like to make a charitable donation. With a donation of 40 dollars or more, you will receive 2 newsletters written by myself during my time in Uganda, with updates and pictures so that you may see the direct result of your donation.
Thank you very much!
Jennifer
